For billions of people throughout the world, one of the basic necessities of life is catastrophically lacking: water. In many developing nations, access to clean, safe drinking water is considered a luxury, and millions die every year from disease caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. Included among these millions are hundreds of thousands of children.
Because water is so lacking, women and children in these impoverished countries are often tasked with the backbreaking daily labor of hauling water long distances for their use. In our privileged nation, where an abundance of safe, clean water flows easily and conveniently right inside our homes, these facts can be hard to comprehend. On Sept. 12, 2019, caring golfers who desire to make a difference will come together to help those affected by this global water crisis as they participate in the annual “Drive for Water” golf tournament at the beautiful Pelican Beach Golf Resort near new Newport Beach, California.
This annual event is hosted by PEACEwater: No Thirsty Child!, and proceeds will benefit the following charities:
- H2❤, an organization striving to help bring sustainable, clean water programs to communities in developing countries.
- Operation Homefront San Diego, an organization offering assistance and support programs to military families.
- Crittenton, a nonprofit, nationally accredited child welfare and behavioral health agency with a 50-year service record of empowering the vulnerable.
Participants can tee off to benefit these worthy causes at the spectacular Pelican Beach Golf Resort, which was born from the vision of celebrated golf course architect Tom Fazio and features lush landscaping and oceanfront views at every hole. This world-class course presents the perfect setting for an exciting day of golf while helping those in need.
The registration deadline for the “Drive for Water” tournament is Aug. 29.
